The Affair That Sent Him Back to Her Bed
Zac came home from Simone and had the best sex he had had with Elly in months.
This is not the kind of sentence that improves when explained. It becomes more interesting, perhaps, but not better.
By then Zac and Elly had been together long enough for disappointment to have lost its drama. They were not throwing plates or changing passwords. They were having the same argument in increasingly efficient forms. Zac said he did not feel heard. Elly heard an accusation, defended herself and waited for the weather inside him to pass. A week later he raised the same complaint with one new example and less hope.
Nothing was terrible. That was part of the problem. Terrible creates movement. What they had was a relationship becoming stale without becoming bad enough to force either of them to decide what came next.
Simone entered through a dating app before Elly entered his life.
They matched on Valentine's Day, when Zac was single and still talking to several women without promising himself to any of them. He responded to one of Simone's profile photographs by telling her she had a beautiful smile. It was the kind of message women receive from men who have run out of language. Zac wrote it because he believed it. He did not say the same thing to everybody.
Two or three weeks later he had the first date with Elly. The date became a beer, the beer became a night together, and by morning Zac had decided to stop looking. He told Simone the new truth without much preparation.
"I have a girlfriend."
Their conversation stopped. Eight or ten months later, it started again.
At first the returning match produced nothing more dangerous than a few messages. Zac was now in a relationship. Simone knew it. There was no sensible future available to them, and for a while that made their conversation feel harmless.
Then Simone asked:
"Do you wanna, like, fuck, and afterwards it'd be like nothing happened? 🫣"
Harmless became daily.
Simone asked the kind of questions Elly had become tired of hearing Zac answer. What did he want? What had he stopped asking for? What would he do if somebody listened without immediately preparing a defence? Simone's attention was not selfless. She liked the effect it had on him, and she liked making him admit that effect.
Early on he had tried calling her Simmy. He did it with people he liked; it was a small softening, offered as affection.
"Simone," she wrote back. Nothing else.
He did not try again.
The first provocative photograph arrived late one evening. It was followed by another that left less to interpretation, then by nudes sent with the confidence of somebody who considered hesitation a problem for other people.
Simone did not flirt by suggesting possibilities. She issued instructions.
"I have complete control over you," she wrote. "You come to me for a week. We record it. You go home and show your girlfriend. Then you come back for more."
Zac read the message until the screen dimmed.
What aroused him was not the recording by itself. It was the hierarchy Simone had written into every step: a week with her, proof carried home, then his announced return. She was not asking to be hidden alongside Elly. She was making Zac imagine choosing her so openly that Elly would have to see it.
"I could never show her," he wrote.
Simone replied, "But you kept reading."
She was right. He could not imagine obeying the whole instruction in ordinary life. He could imagine belonging to Simone while she described it, and the gap between those two facts did nothing to make him less hard.
Their first meeting happened in Simone's car. A car makes almost any secret feel temporary. There are windows on every side, awkward angles, the possibility of headlights entering at the wrong moment. Simone seemed to enjoy all of this. She chose where to park, when Zac could touch her and how far the meeting would go.
She let Zac kiss her and touch beneath her clothes, but every permission remained separate. Whenever he assumed one access led naturally to the next, Simone caught his hand and placed it somewhere else. She let him feel how much she wanted him, then refused penetration.
"You have a girlfriend," she reminded him.
The boundary made the meeting take Simone's shape: she controlled the one act Zac had begun to expect, and control was the part she enjoyed most.
They met in the car more than once. Each time Zac arrived believing familiarity would make him calmer. Each time Simone found a new way to show him that knowing the rules did not mean he controlled them.
Before their second meeting, she sent him a location and three words.
Do not be late.
Zac arrived four minutes early and waited beside the dark row of parked cars until Simone flashed her lights once. She did not greet him when he opened the passenger door.
"Back seat," she said.
Simone switched off the engine and joined him behind the front seats. The car settled around them with small cooling sounds. A seat-belt buckle pressed against Zac's knee, the dashboard left a faint amber line across Simone's face, and every few minutes headlights travelled along the windows before moving on.
"Show me what you remember."
She opened her blouse and pulled one cup of her bra aside. Zac bent toward her too quickly. Simone caught the hair at the back of his head before his mouth reached her.
"Slower."
He began with his lips against the underside of her breast, then moved upward until his tongue found her nipple. The hand in his hair loosened without leaving. When he sucked harder, Simone's fingers tightened again, not pulling him away but holding him precisely where the pressure pleased her.
Her first moan was so soft Zac mistook it for breath. The next one told him she had meant him to hear.
In their messages Simone was extravagant. She could direct a week of betrayal, an audience and the route by which Zac would return to her. In the car her pleasure arrived in small sounds against the dark, each one giving him less room to think about anything beyond earning the next.
He changed the pressure of his tongue and felt her body answer before she made another sound. Simone leaned back against the door, one knee braced beside his hip. When Zac began to move away, intending to kiss lower, she brought him back to her breast.
"I didn't tell you to stop."
He obeyed.
The windows clouded. Somewhere outside, a car door slammed. Simone closed her mouth over the next moan, trying to keep it low. Zac did not even lift his head. He kept kissing and playing with her breast as if nothing existed beyond the steamed glass.
When Zac's hand travelled beneath her skirt, Simone caught his wrist. She placed his palm flat against her thigh and held it there.
"You can feel how much I want you," she whispered. "You still don't get everything."
Her next moan entered him with the force of a promise. Some excessive part of Zac thought of sirens and sailors: not men deceived about the rocks, but men who heard that sweetness and chose the waves anyway.
Simone let him continue until wanting had made his jaw ache and his untouched cock felt almost unbearable inside his trousers. Then she lifted his face, covered her breast and fastened the blouse one button at a time.
"Go home," she said.
She wiped a clear patch in the fogged window with the side of her hand and checked the empty car park before unlocking the doors. Zac stepped into the cold carrying the sound of her with him.
At another meeting Simone kept most of her clothes on and guided his hand beneath them, changing his pressure and then making him hold perfectly still until she came. She taught him that the rule was not one repeated denial. It was a way of making every permission feel separately chosen.
On the final evening she invited him inside.
Simone had kept one boundary.
Then she invited Zac inside.
Continue through the night that sent him back to Elly more hungry than guilty.
